It’s difficult to explain exactly what negative entities (“negs,” demons, dark energy, poltergeists) are since everyone has a different idea. It’s a big topic of discussion, however, and one I’ve had some experience with, so I’d like to share my thoughts on it.
There are some who have written that essentially, negative entities are nothing more than the product of people who want to see them, and in a certain way I agree. One reason is because the more people are tuned into lower energies and are seeking them out, the more likely they are to find them. (We probably all know a person who obsesses over negative energies and always seems to have them around, and I believe it is the aforementioned principle at play.) Oftentimes these energies are nothing more than creations of the mind, thoughtforms that exist simply to give the person the illusion that they are engaging in battle with something fierce and outside of themselves. Those who are not oriented towards negative entities will tend not to experience them much. That said…
My personal view on negative energies is that they are one of three things:
- One’s own subconscious thoughtforms
- Cluttered energies draining one’s own energetic field and aura from day to day life and emotions
- Lower astral beings/ghosts/earthbound souls (not necessarily “evil” either!)
I’ve encountered a few unsavory energies from the third category in my time. It’s subtle but there’s a way I’ve come to realize when I may have picked up something nasty that’s hanging around me: terrifying, disturbing dreams; increased moodiness or anxiety; an exacerbation of whatever ill physical state I may be in at the time; and general discomfort. Since I am primarily clairvoyant, I can tell when I’ve picked up a neg by the disturbing images I get. That’s when I know there is an actual presence around me and I need to take care of it.
I have learned a number of techniques that I use. Some work better than others, so I try as many as necessary in order to cleanse myself. When I do, the relief fills me up with light and I feel at ease again.
In no particular order:
- Smudging with sage
- Sprinkling salt around you
- Visualizing a strong light barrier
- Crystals (blue kyanite, black tourmaline, and amethyst are ones I use for protection and easing my anxiety)
- Playing a singing bowl (I’d recommend everyone to have one of these if you can, they are fantastic for so many things!)
- Calling on a Higher Light Source for protection
- Herbs (I use a vervain and black tourmaline pouch)
- Visualizing a cleansing action
- Reaching out to others whom you trust for insight and perspective on what you may be experiencing
As you can see, there are many ways to protect and cleanse your space and make sure the energies around you are for your highest good. Keeping yourself protected can also be done preemptively: take a moment during meditation to see your energetic space and determine if it is properly sealed and cleansed. You need no money and no tools besides your mind to keep you at your energetic best, but it may help you to carry herbs or crystals if you know you tend to pick up a lot of energies while out and about. If you can, take the time to meditate, smudge, sound heal, or whatever you’d like when you come home from a busy environment. But most of all, don’t worry! There is nothing to fear, negative entities cannot hurt you! All they can do is generate fear in you, and once you understand that that’s what is happening and you stop feeding them, there’s nothing left for them to do.
On a parting note, I want to say that I see an awful lot of people focus way too much on this kind of thing. In writing this, I wanted to acknowledge that yes, there can be negative energies that affect us (especially those of us who are psychically sensitive!) and yes, there are ways to protect ourselves. However, I think the idea of demons and nasty negs got blown up in people’s minds, no thanks to films like Insidious which paint our non-physical reality as some silly horror carnival or unchallenged assumptions that Tarot cards and Ouija boards “let the demons in.” If you find yourself obsessing over possession or the fear of letting something nasty in by exploring anything spiritual, I’d advise you to stop what you are doing until you can approach it with a level head and no fear. Really, there is nothing to fear but fear itself!
