How do you know when you’ve found your twin flame? Is it because of coincidences, commonalities, visions, dreams, signs and syncs (synchronicities), or other such experiences?
When you meet your twin soul, you may have all these experiences and more. Often these are the methods your higher self and guides use to alert you to the fact that something important is happening. But, in themselves, these signs and syncs do not indicate that you are having a twin experience.
I see a lot of confusion stemming from these twin soul litmus tests and “facts” and signs to tell you are in a twin flame relationship that aren’t actually proof but are just reiterating a list of common symptoms. Things like seeing numbers repeated everywhere, 11:11, enjoying the same oddball comedy, having the same obscure collection, having two complimentary (or opposing) astrological signs, seeing your connection’s initials all over the place, hearing your connection’s name, seeing the name of that person’s company, hearing a commercial for that person’s favorite cologne, and so on. You’re paying a lot of special attention to these details, and when we are attracted to someone we tend to collect pieces of information centered on them.
It’s kind of like this. Frosting is present on a lot of cakes, and cakes may involve frosting, but frosting is, in itself, not a cake. I think that’s where a lot of people get confused about this.
They see their frosting and think this must be a cake, I mean, there’s frosting and frosting means cake, so…
But the truth is, frosting serves a lot of purposes. Frosting can go with a lot of things.
Yes, twin soul connections do bring on these psychic experiences and triggers and weird syncs. But having these experiences can happen with anyone or anything if it is meaningful to us at the time. We can have these with soul mates, we can have these with karmic partners, we can have these when an important job opportunity is coming up, we can have these when we need to make a change. All they are are messages from our soul to our consciousness to pay attention!
Sometimes this stuff can get pretty eerie, and when it’s genuine you know on an intuitive level that it has meaning. But a lot of this stuff, to be honest, is probably our brains seeking patterns. If you are sensitive to the name Brian you are going to hear and see that name very succinctly because it has meaning for you and your brain is wired to pick that information out of a pool of data much faster. It doesn’t mean the name Brian is being mentioned more because you fell in love with a Brian. That’s just the way our brains work, and we have to keep that in mind too.
I can tell you that this kind of thing has happened every time I have been interested in someone. I knew I was searching for a very special connection even before I knew what it was. But it led me to search for it in strange places. I was focusing more on the “signs and syncs” like inane details and commonalities than how I felt on a soul level.
Back in college, I had a personal interest in a certain country and wanted to learn the language. It wasn’t offered at my school so I bought some textbooks on my own to try learning it myself. I’d describe my interest in this country/language as a soul calling, and it turned out to be–it was what propelled me to start learning about my past lives (I had lived a life there and that was why I was drawn to it). Anyway, in one of my philosophy classes, I noticed a guy for the first time. On his desk were the books for the class we were taking, and one copy of the exact language textbook I had recently bought for myself.
Oh my god. He’s studying the same language! He has the same book and I know it’s not a book/language offered through the school. And he’s in philosophy, my major! Is this supposed to mean something?
You know who he turned out to be? Absolutely nobody. I thought about him and wondered about him during class when we’d see each other. Once I bumped into him unexpectedly downtown, and it was then that I knew. I felt nothing special about him. I had just been pushing the idea in my head because of the strange coincidence I had discovered and because of the deep personal meaning that language had to me.
Yes, I was looking for The One, and I was wired to try to find this connection in anyone. I looked for it everywhere and scoped the significance of every little commonality, every little piece of relevant data that could be pooled to show that this person had special meaning in my life. And yeah, at the end of it, I can see the importance most of them had to me on a soul level and in my life plan. But they were nowhere near twin souls, and had I had these litmus tests in hand at the time, I would have been very confused. That is why we cannot use syncs and signs as a diagnostic tool alone.
Another thing to keep in mind is this: each twin soul connection varies widely! There is no one sync, no commonality, no sign that defines all connections! There’s no way to tell by how much you like the same sports or have the same hobbies that you are truly sharing a soul, just as having different hobbies and interests does not mean someone is not your twin! That is another reason why signs and syncs aren’t useful in themselves.
My best word of advice is this: if you have synchronicities, signs, numbers, dreams, and the like about a certain person, you can rest assured that your soul is probably trying to tell you something important about them. But, you cannot define a twin soul connection by these experiences alone.
So how can you tell if someone is your twin aside from all these strange signs and syncs?
By listening to your soul.
Sometimes, it isn’t until you actually have this experience that you know what the difference is, and without that point of reference you’ll find yourself grasping at straws, trying to understand what relationship or person could fulfill this designation. If you find yourself going down a laundry list of commonalities, signs, or other information that have nothing to do with how your soul feels around this person, stop and think for a moment. Pick a person you know really well, sit down, and write a list of everything you can think of that you have in common with them, every funny sync you share with them, and so on.
Anyone could be your twin using that criteria, couldn’t they?
And if you are genuinely surrounded by these unexplained and incredible twin flame signs and syncs, enjoy the creative ways the universe is using to get your attention. 🙂
